Washington County 7th Annual FREEDOM DAY Juneteenth Celebration

West Bend, WI – In recognition of the oldest known celebration of the ending of slavery, Washington County together with Downtown West Bend Association is co-hosting the 7th annual Juneteenth celebration of Freedom Day on Thursday, June 18 at Old Settlers Park on Main Street in West Bend, right before the start of Music on Main. The public is invited to come celebrate Juneteenth and stay for the music – bring your lawn chairs!
Juneteenth commemorates the ending of slavery in the United States. The event dates to June 19, 1865, when Union soldiers arrived at Galveston, Texas, with news that the war had ended and that the enslaved were free. This was more than two years after President Lincoln’s Emancipation Proclamation, which had become official January 1, 1863.

DATE/TIME: Thursday, June 18, 2025 – 5:30 p.m.
LOCATION: Old Settlers Park, Downtown West Bend
